The Spring Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair, Battersea Evolution, Battersea Park, London SW11, 29th April – 4th May
It is hard to believe that the Spring edition of this Fair is already here. The foyer exhibition is the very interesting and inspiring ‘Using Textiles as Art’ which has been curated by Molly Hogg, who also exhibits at the Fair.
I thought that I would bring to your attention this charming portrait of Timothy Clutterbuck and his dog which was painted by Charles Edmund Brock (1870-1938). Brock started his artistic career as an illustrator of books, including editions of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and Jonathan Swift, however as this painting clearly shows he was an accomplished painter of portraits. He numbers Queen Victoria and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, whom he painted with her children Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret, among his sitters.
It is being shown by the London dealer Nicholas Price whose stand will be an elegant and inviting room setting with a mixture of paintings, watercolours and prints, including botanical still lifes as well as a mélange of furniture. To me it sums up the fair perfectly.
