Dan Llywelyn Hall – “Between Night and Day”, The Summer Exhibition at Lorfords, Tetbury, until 5th July, 2014
This exhibition juxtaposes forty-five new works by the award-winning artist Dan Llywelyn Hall with the antiques and decorative objects that form Lorfords eagerly sought after stock. As Toby Lorford says “the exhibition proves that contemporary paintings work really well with antiques and vice versa.”
The theme of Dan’s new body of work is the idea of travel. Indeed his recent travels have encompassed Iraq, France, Crete, Turkey and the Canaries. In his pictures he tries to capture the soul of the place rather than exact records.
He says “It is always a great insight into humanity when you witness tourists pass by a place of great cultural significance. Very few really stop to look and think meaningfully about what it is that they are witnessing. I make images that deal with the ironies of modern living.”
