Oblivious – New Works By Nigel Cox, Gallery 8, 8 Duke Street, London SW1, until 22nd November 2014
This new show of his luminous paintings underscore why his subjects have included Carlos Acosta and Sir Ranulph Fiennes. Cox was part of the latter’s Transglobe Expedition.
In a technique that he calls Photorealistic Minimalism he depicts his subjects as if removed from “place” with the figure, often with their face not visible, against a large empty background. It is highly effective and produces memorable works with an almost sculptural quality.
On the opening night a limited edition of two specially chosen prints, “Flash” and “Spiderman” will be released, with all the proceeds of their sale going to the Terrence Higgins Trust
