Edward Bawden Scrapbooks
Peyton Skipwith and Brian Webb
This is a fascinating glimpse into the life and interests of Edward Bawden, artist, illustrator and designer. The scrapbooks were put together over a fifty-five year period and as the two hundred and fifty images in this volume reveal the items selected represent a wide variety, including photographs, cigarette cards, stamps, letters, newspaper cuttings, drawings, linocuts and Christmas cards.
It is a glimpse not only into Bawden’s thought process but also highlights his interest in what other artists, designers and typographers were doing, even including Surrealism. It is a book that one can return to time and again and find something to delight the eye and intrigue the brain.
